USAID RO Announcement: Phase-out of TraiNet Desktop

Following, is an announcement from the USAID RO from an email sent to all TraiNet R1s and Visa Compliance System R2 Verifiers and R3 Approvers:

On March 5, 2008, I queried all users of TraiNet Desktop and TraiNet Web asking for feedback on what impact the phase-out of TraiNet Desktop might have on users. The overwhelming response was that virtually all USAID Missions use the web version, as do almost all of our partner organizations, and for those few remaining users of Desktop, a gradual phase-out would have little or no negative impact.

Therefore, effective immediately, USAID will no longer fund the maintenance of TraiNet Desktop. Effective June 30, 2008, USAID will no longer fund, and Development Infostructure (DevIs) will no longer provide, Desktop-related helpdesk support. Also as of June 30, 2008, USAID will also no longer cover any data migration costs on behalf of USAID Missions or partners. Effective September 30, 2008, current users will no longer have access to TraiNet Desktop and must use TraiNet Web exclusively.
